Mill Hill Park has an enclosed playground for younger children with a wide range of colourful and fun equipment for 3-7 year olds. Next to this is an area with a more modest range of activities for older children such as climbing frame, slide, trampoline (an interesting experience when the base is full of water after rain!) and basket ball net.
The Friends of Mill Hill Park were especially proud to have been able to rescue the younger children’s playground from the critical position reached in May 2010 when the sudden removal of equipment for safety reason resulted in an almost total loss of play facilities for 3-7 year olds. With Barnet Council unable to fund replacements, the Friends of Mill Hill Park applied to the Big Lottery and in August 2011 were awarded a grant of £47,473. Barnet Council was a partner throughout this, pledging to pay for the installation and landscaping costs. In the end this amounted to £24,733. This gated playground area is highly popular throughout the year.
In 2022, our main focus is on improvement of the facilities for the 7-12 year olds. At present there is relatively little equipment to challenge this older age group and the area where it is located becomes waterlogged for most of the winter. The Friends of Mill Hill Park are working with the Mill Hill Residents Association and Barnet Council to design a solution to these problems.
